Beautiful perfume bottle, in opaque polychrome glass and silver leaf with some “murrina” faces. White metal stopper. Last decade of 19th century, Murano – Venezia.It is ascribed to Giacomo Franchini, and produced by Pietro Bigaglia by some collectors, but we have a different opinion. The shape of the bottle, the colours, and the quality of the “murrine” included in the glass are different from the certified Franchini – Bigaglia bottles.Considering these items were very expensive also at their time, we suppose this kind of bottles was made as a second line production, by an unknown imitator. The result is not exceptional, as the Franchini’, but of more than decent quality. We could also go to suppose they were made under the supervision of Bigaglia, when, after 1875, G. Franchini more or less stopped the production. This bottle could be probably ascribed to the “Fratelli Toso Glass factory”. Look carefully to the pictures, there are some lines on the upper layer of the glass, the transparent cover, probably due to the cooling, not passing through. You could see a very similar bottle in the catalogue “Venetian beads, Mosaic glass and Murrine”, written by G. Sarpellon, on occasion of an exposition kept in Venezia in 2003. Picture 573, page 74.For most of the “murrine” included, see same catalogue, pictures 574-582, page 75.The same kind of bottle is published also in”Miniature di vetro” by G. Sarpellon,page 91, and in the catalogue of the exhibition “Murrine e Millefiori 1830 – 1930”, Venezia 1998. There are 10 “Face” murrine. Size:Length: 70mm. Width: 33mm. Thickness: 26,5mm.
