eBay Sports Illustrated November 16, 1981 BACK FROM THE BRINK HOLMES COMES OFF THE CANVAS TO STOP SNIPES This is the November 16, 1981 issue of Sports Illustrated, featuring on its cover WBC heavyweight champion Larry Holmes having his way (OUCH!) with challenger Renaldo Snipes in their heavyweight title bout at the Civic Center in Pittsburgh. Holmes, who had to get up off the canvas in the seventh round, went out and ended the fight in the 11th with a furious onslaught against his challenger, forcing Referee Rudy Ortega to stop the fight at 1:05 of the round. This 122-page, thirty-nine plus year-old publication has been stored in a polypropylene archival bag in a smoke-free environment and is in excellent condition with virtually no notable cover wear. I would consider any technical imperfections (if any) to be negligible. (As always, of course, please examine the hi-res photos and let your own eyes be the judge). The mailing label was carefully removed, leaving a barely perceptible trace. The staples are clean and the binding is tight, although there is a bit of stress wear at the staples, most notably the middle and lower ones. The good news is that most of the ‘wear’ appears to be evident on the back cover, and doesn’t, in my opinion, detract at all from what to me is a beautiful front cover. The pages (inserts included) are crisp and clean and appear to contain no rips, tears, or other extraneous markings. A very well-preserved vintage publication that still maintains a crisp and fresh look and feel.
