eBay This is the only architectural drawing of the Marblehead (Ohio) Lighthouse available. It was created over an eight-year period by noted Pittsburgh-based commercial and industrial illustrator Rick Henkel, who grew up in Port Clinton near the lighthouse. His efforts to create the drawing took him on dozens of trips to lighthouses, museums, The National Archives, libraries and other historical sites. “Marblehead Lighthouse, 1903” was printed using a six-color Heidelberg offset press on heavy 130-pound acid-free archival paper. The print measures 18 x 38 inches and comes carefully rolled and capped, with tissue paper inserts. The heavy-duty tube itself is shipped inside a 4 x 4 x 20 inch cardboard mailer. In addition to a meticulously-created drawing of the lighthouse as it was in 1903, the print also features 24 annotations on its stages of construction, renovations and mechanics over the last two centuries. Anyone who sees it hanging on a wall is sure to stop and spend some time reading up on this amazing (still-standing) historical structure. The piece was completed and released in 2007 with a single printing, and during the next several years a small number were sold including many to museums, lighthouse organizations and collectors. About 100 more were made available when the book, “Marblehead Lighthouse on Lake Erie: Ohio’s Historic Beacon” was published by Arcadia Press in 2015. Several years after that, in an unfortunate incident, more than 3,000 were destroyed. The remaining inventory of rolled, ready-to-ship less than 800 was personally relocated by the artist to Marblehead in preparation for the 200th anniversary of the lighthouse, in 2022. Several hundred of those have been sold during the last three months. There are dozens of drone shots, photos and other renderings of the Marblehead Lighthouse available, but just one “Marblehead Lighthouse, 1903.” There will be no more printed, so be sure to get yours now for yourself or as a gift.
