The sleekly curved, clean-lined form has a wonderfully organic, rough bark textured body which beautifully exhibits the inherent nature of the clay. The textured clay is spectacularly contrasted with an exquisite pool of thick, smooth mottled sea blue and green glaze which colours the interior. Burnt oxide red colours the textured inner rim, beautifully accentuating the richness of the divine blue glaze. The contrasting textures combine to create a wonderfully tactile piece which is both aesthetically pleasing and a delight to the touch. This delightful bowl has to be amongst the most spectacularly glazed examples of this type which we have had the pleasure to offer. The exquisite blue/green glaze appears like a refreshing body of water set amongst the sunburnt earth, a design which is surely inspired by the natural beauty of the Australian landscape. SIZE: This delightful piece measures approx 110mms in diameter and stands 40mms tall. CONDITION: This piece is presented in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. This piece has been very well cared for and presents spectacularly. MARKS: This piece is beautifully signed to the base with the artists impressed monogram “RT”. THE ARTIST: New Zealand born artist, Rynne Tanton, originally studied to be a teacher in the 1960s, choosing art as one of his electives. He was sadly disappointed to learn only mainstreams form of fine art were offered in New Zealand at the time, so embarked upon teaching himself some pottery. Seeking more formal qualifications, he completed a three year degree at Royal Melbourne Institute of technology, and was about to return to New Zealand when he was offered a job at the Launceston Art School. This immense passion for passing on the age old knowledge of ceramics saw him stay on in Launceston for 24 years. In the mid 2000’s, Tanton and Bernadine Atling established “Crickhollow Pottery” just outside of Launceston, pouring his passion into each individually hand made piece and inspired by the natural beauty of Tasmania.
