Own a piece of roller skating history! I bought these skates in the 1980’s. They were hand built by the inventor of the laser plate, Ernest “Brad” Brandner himself. His design had just completed the initial product casting and testing with Dupont plastics. It was at this time that he was just issued the final/revised patents by mail in 1982 and this set of skates were one of the first of a handful of skates built with the new flagship, super lightweight Laser plates. (see the old style “laser skate co.” label compared to the new ones they ship now) I was friends with Brad and Jeanette, used to see them frequently at the Universal Entertainment and Skating Center’s pro shop because I was part of an avid group of skaters that went there every week for the adult skate nights for many, many years. (The location is now known as “Astro Skate” on goldenrod road, located in Orlando, Florida) Each week we would drop in and say hello, unless they were in Winconsin, where he and his business partner had their business. Brad was also heavily involved with opening an outdoor track in Couderay, Winconsin where people could train. The Bradners were truly amazing people and heavily involved in the skating industry. Brad had over 25 patents related to roller skating, he invented the lightweight laser composite skate plates and also invented the V-line inline skates, eventually passing in May of 1995 in his favorite town of Couderay. He was laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery. Up for bid today is a set of size 9 1/2 Men’s Reidell RS-1000 (regular width) boots, mounted on the original Laser Elite hard nose plates, with a set of comp wheels & bearings and a set of outdoor wheels with some cheap bearings for outdoor use so the good ones do not get ruined by water outdoors. The bag with the outdoor wheels will also include a couple extra wheels I had. For the age, they are in great overall shape. The plates themselves are in superb condition, no chips, gouges or damage of any kind, never had any damage to the forward pin. The boots have some marks on them and the tongues need a set of new pads installed. Aside from installing the new tongue pads, you can slide on your favorite wheels and bearings and you’re off to the races! You could also keep this amazing piece of history for your collection, as not many of these original setups are available from the first run of Laser hard nose builds. (For those that looked at my listing yesterday when it was only the outdoor wheels, I found my comp wheels and they are now included in this sale) Shipping will be free for the continental 48-states only.
